Our family LOVES popcorn!
In fact we eat popcorn at least once a week if not more. We normally just air pop our own,
it’s much healthier and we can “control” and know what goes on our yummy snack or sometimes a meal with a few apples slices and such. :0)

But often times a bag of microwave popcorn is MUCH easier and less time consuming!
Though
I’ve slowly been hearing more and more about the toxic chemicals that
are used in the lining of the bags for flavorings. Yuck.

So, I began in search for an
alternative by simply googling it. I found literally hundreds of sites
showing you how to make “homemade microwave popcorn.” Where has this been our whole lives?!
And
if you know me, the kids and I {and often the hubby too!} enjoy experimenting and trying new things. We found this to be a fun experience and a tasty one too! ;0) It obviously took a tiny bit more work than the traditional microwavable
stuff, but I believe it to be much yummier and much healthier!
The whole family raved and ooed and awed, and of course munched through compliments. I mentioned above we normally just air pop our popcorn melting butter and adding our own flavorings, but, this is fun to do every know and then. The popcorn stayed extra crunchy where as the air popped often get’s “stale” over the eating experience.
Here’s how you can do it too, it’s as easy as 1…2…3…4…5!

Instructions:

Pour your popcorn kernels into a bowl, and add the oil & salt
{or any flavoring of choice.} Stir until kernels are evenly coated.

Put the kernels into the brown paper bag. Fold the top over twice.

{My hubby helping with the documenting process for blogging!} He’s so awesome! Winking smile

Place in the microwave. Unlike the store bought packages, this bag should sit upright! Microwave on high for 1.5-2 minutes, depending on your microwave. You know that the popcorn is done when there are 2 seconds or more between pops. Be careful not to burn it. {Stay close to the microwave and listen to the pops!}

Carefully remove the bag from the microwave! Watch out for escaping steam!
And because we are so “frugal” we made two batches of popcorn with 1 bag.
{I believe that’s about all you will get out of 1 bag.} The bag get’s greasy.

Helpful tip: I suggest putting a paper towel underneath while popping.
